The Dairy Research Institute® encourages collaboration among researchers and funding agencies in order to foster a healthier society by leveraging existing resources and expertise. Therefore, DRI recognizes that there may be instances when additional support is needed to enhance existing non-DRI funded projects. Principal investigators with an existing grant, either pending or active, may apply for supplemental support if:
- The project is evaluating the effects of dairy foods or ingredients on health
- The investigators would like to add additional arms/analyses to a study that was not specifically examining dairy on health
Examples of supplemental support include:
- Projects that enhance objectives or measurements being obtained in an ongoing or new dairy-related project that is funded by governmental agencies, foundations, the food industry, or other sources
- Conducting secondary analyses on existing data sets related to dairy and health
In recognition that investigators may receive awards from other organizations throughout the year, Supplemental Support pre-proposals are accepted year-round. Pre-proposals can be submitted before funding from the non-DRI source has been officially approved. However, if a full-proposal is requested then documentation of the approved funding must be provided at the time of submission. Funding requested should be consistent with the research to be conducted. Indirect costs of up to 10% of total direct costs for the supplemental support will be considered for the management of the research project by the sponsoring institution and should be included in the total pre-proposal budget. DRI does not permit indirect costs for equipment, including computers.
